Side winding

As it was the first day of December today I took a drive and found myself admiring the tenacity and beauty of the old East End, the listed buildings which have survived the blitz and the ill-conceived concrete blackout of the 70’s. I drove around taking in the splendour of these streets, the beauty and the decay and considered the effects that the street art movement in this area is having on it’s rapidly changing landscape.

Most street art is done on gates and temporary walls so I find it sad when I see historically listed buildings daubed with markers and tags, they have so much character and beauty within their natural ageing process that to see them trashed makes me sad. Fortunately most get restored and cleaned quite quickly.

And so after admiring the side streets of Spitalfields I drove through Brick lane towards home and passed some artists work…
